If you’re looking for a placement that will let you put what you’re learning at university into practice Rachel Bentham, BA (Hons) Economics, explains why you should follow in her footsteps.
The main thing I have to say about placement is APPLY APPLY APPLY! Although I’m only a few months in, I already know it has 100% been the right decision for me, and although sometimes getting up at 6:30 5 times a week isn’t great, the experience makes it more than worthwhile.
I’m an Economics student and my placement is with BASF, who although you may never have heard of- I hadn’t- they are the biggest chemical company in the world (and have UK offices that just happen to be based in Cheadle, which is a definite bonus for anyone looking for a placement in the North West). My job title is a Market Analysis Assistant, and I’m one of 3 interns based in the UK, although there are many more throughout Europe. (more…)

In this blog Keziah Davies, BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Management, provides an insight into her time on placement as a Junior PPC (pay per click) Analyst at Quintessential Finance Ltd. Here’s her ‘day in the life of’ overview;
5:50 am: My several alarms, set at three minute intervals, go off. The best tip I can give here is do not press snooze no matter how tempting it is, especially when you wake up and it is still dark outside!
6:30 am: Showered and dressed, I quickly eat my breakfast (if I have the time).
6:45 am: I leave for my placement in Macclesfield. Quintessential Finance Ltd have two company car parks so I commute daily. If you do decide to commute then allow at least 15 minutes leeway – the motorways are unpredictable, and country lanes are even worse!
8:00 am: At my desk, firing up all the required programs and usually making a coffee while this is happening. (During placement caffeine will become your best friend – trust him!) (more…)
In our latest blog post final year student, Laura Hobday, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, tells us about her placement year, what she gained and why taking a placement year was the best decision she’s ever made.
In May 2013 I was just about to give up looking for a placement. I’d applied for a few online though MMU’s placement vacancy system but hadn’t received an interview for any. I then received a phone call from a Manager who I worked for the previous summer. Sodexo Prestige is a Global catering company and I was lucky enough to work the London 2012 Olympics/Paralympics with them. Here I worked hard to make great contacts. When a position in the Commercial Department at Ascot Racecourse became available, they called me to offer me the position for my placement year. (more…)
